  • The Literacy Learning Progressions are now available on TKI. They describe the specific literacy knowledge, skills, and attitudes that students draw on in order to meet the reading and writing demands of the curriculum, up to the end of year 10.
  • The variation in school entry dates for students starting school at age five has implications for the timing of overall teacher judgments (OTJs) and reporting on progress. The Ministry of Education has produced a document which gives guidance for schools when deciding on the timing of OTJs for reporting.

  • e-asTTle is New Zealand's first online assessment tool which enables teachers and students to answer the questions:
    Small Key Piece

    • How am I going?
    • Where am I going?
    • What next?
    • How do I get there?

e-asTTle has been built as part of the philosophy of Visible Learning and Visible Teaching - "when teachers see learning through the eyes of students and when students see themselves as their own teachers."

e-asTTle is far more than a set of tests - it is a formative teaching and learning tool and when used in its very best way it will be included as part the everyday activities in a classroom.

e-asTTle assessments can be created in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Panui, Tuhituhi and Pangarau for students from school years 4 to 12. Teachers design tests to meet the specific needs of students and have choices of how long a test is, what curriculum area and strands are included, whether students will sit the test online or as pen and paper tests. There are different kinds of tests and a range of different reports that give very rich information about student progress and achievement.
