  • This primary purpose of this site is to have a single location that demonstrates many of the things that are possible with non-standard blocks, modules, filters and plugins in Moodle. Available Courses

  • This is the course you should enrol in
    The other courses are metacourses - therefore when you enrol in this course you will automatically be enrolled in the others. Please note that this is not immediate. It could take at least half an hour to update your enrolment details (you can use Guest access until this time).
  • The Accessibility Block adds a set of buttons, like those seen on a lot of websites, to provide accessibility options (e.g. quick control of text size and colours).
  • The objective of the ActiveUsers block is to promote/motivate usage of the LMS.
  • The Administration Alert Block about things that could be wrong in a Moodle site.
  • The Analog Clock Block displays a Flash realtime clock.
  • The Attendance Activity and Block allow a class to be marked in a 'traditional' way.
  • The Attendance Chart Module is not currently working in Moodle 1.9.
  • The Audio Recorder module allows Students to record an MP3 audio file, save it to a local folder, and then upload it in an Assignment.
  • The Birthday Block be used to display birthdays referenced from a users additional profile field.

    The Bookings Module enables booking of resources via the Moodle site.

  • The Cognitive Factory Activity uses an extensible list of "mind operators" such as categorizing, 2D locating, scaling, hierarchizing, ordering, from a set of ideas that were collected as a preliminary activity.
  • The Contact Form Block allows the student to email the Teacher of a course (if there are multiple Teachers the Student can select which Teacher).
  • The Contacts Block allows participants to setup a list of best friends or important contacts.
  • The Course Dedication Block shows user activity with a course.
  • The Course Menu is a tree based expanding menu block with numerous options.
  • The Course Size Report displays information regarding the size of courses.
  • The DicoTrad Block queries dictionaries, Wikipedia, and provides translations.
  • The Enrolment Expiry Date Block shows participants the number of days they have remaining in a course.
  • The Face-to-Face Activity can be used to keep track of in-person (e.g. classroom) training events that require advance booking.
  • The Feedback Module is very popular add-in that can be used to create a survey or poll or course feedback mechanism.

    The Flash Module allows developers to embed movies in Moodle in a highly integrated way so that they can take advantage of the Gradebook, Backup/Restore, and other features.
  • The Flexible Web Page course Format is a highly flexible course format.
  • A Flyout Menu for use in a course.
  • The Game Module includes Hangman, Crosswords, Cryptex, Millionaire, Sudoku, Snakes and Ladders, Book with questions, and The hidden picture.

    The Grade Me Block shows Teachers any ungraded assignments in a course.
  • The Image Slideshow module allows Teachers to easily display a folder of images (with thumbnails) without having to worry about the best way of resizing files.

    The iPodcast v37b3 module for Moodle that allows for full iTunes integration (with description, tags, category).
  • The Learning Resources Block can make links to online learning resources accessible from every course page.
  • The Lightbox Gallery Resource is a Javascript tool that creates professional photo galleries.
  • The Mediabird Activity is a collaborative online notepad, also featuring a question and answer function.
  • Moodle for Mobiles is for use of Moodle courses on Japanese phones. It requires several code changes to important config files. It is therefore not being demonstrated here currently.
  • I like to call this course "an evolving using Moodle in Business space" (!) - where I am exploring and demonstrating ways to enhance and extend Moodle for use in commercial settings - using non-standard Modules, Blocks, Filters, and other add-ins.

    The MyUdutu Activity will allow you to import a MyUdutu SCORM directly into your Moodle course.
  • The Poll Block allows participants to select from a number of options, and see the 'votes' of others.
  • There are a number of Question Types that can be added to Moodle - this course demonstrates a number of them.
  • The Questionnaire module allows participants to complete online feedback forms.
  • The Quickmail Block allows participants to send an email without leaving Moodle.
  • Reports that can be added to Moodle (some are viewable by Administrators only, others also by Teachers).
  • The Resume / CV builder Block will enable Students to create a resume (Curriculum Vitae) based on a pre-designed form. The resume can then be reviewed by a teacher, who can provide feedback.
  • The Search Glossaries Block can search through all the Glossaries in a course in one operation.
  • The Shoutbox Block creates a real-time message board that everyone in a course can 'shout' on.
  • The Skype Icons Filter replaces shorthand codes with Skype style emoticons. The Skypecast activity provides a in-course Skype launching facility.
  • The Slideshow Module (for images) allows Teachers to create a simple gallery of images (from a single directory) and create automated slideshows complete with captions and titles.

    Sloodle is a 'mash-up' between Moodle and Second Life.
  • The Social Bookmarking Module is simple to install, and allows bookmarks to be added and shared, in a similar way to Del.icio.us, Furl, and other social-bookmarking sites.

  • The Stamp Collection Module allows Teachers to give Students stamps (gold stars or other motivational symbols) with comments.
  • The Study Calendar course Format is an add-in course format similar to Weekly format.

  • The Tab Display module is a resource type that displays 'pages' or screens of information with navigation tabs across the top.
